We appreciate the investment updating older furniture represents, but you cannot find that level of build integrity with most recently made furniture. But there are ways to rejuvenate an old chair or sofa without completely reupholstering it. Here is one of those stories.
A client wanted a facelift for their family room, and made an appointment to get some design direction from us, and select a great fabric. The project involved slipcovers for a sofa, and reupholstering a long tufted bench. So to start, we reviewed photos of the room, as well as the adjoining rooms, and visited our fabric library. The room has a neutral color scheme, which the client wished to maintain. There is a terrific leather wingback chair and a rustic cocktail table to work around.
We selected a scenic print for the sofa, and an animal print for the bench. These provide a nice movement to the room and incorporate similar colors. Our relationships with mills we routinely purchase from helps our clients save money. Special processes, such as prewashing the slipcover fabric to minimize shrinkage when she eventually needs to launder it, are done here, adding another cost-saving.
In the end, the client loved the room’s transformation, and was especially pleased with the savings over completely reupholstering both pieces.
